Construction on the new County Fair section of Carowinds is moving forward ahead of schedule. As of mid-November, Southern Sidewinder waterslide has been demolished along with a game stand in the area on the north side of the park to make way for the expansion. Demolition is expected to wrap up this week. Foundation grading will begin next week for the four new family rides that will call County Fair home— Electro-Spin, Zephyr, Rock N' Roller and Do-Si-Do.
In addition, the well-known thrill ride Carolina Cobra is getting a new name and color scheme. It will be called the Flying Cobras and will pay tribute to the classic air shows one would see at a Carolina County Fair. Flying Cobras will be blue and white with a stunt plane theme on each train.
Carowinds is owned and operated by Cedar Fair Entertainment Company, a publicly traded partnership that is listed for trading on The NewYork Stock Exchange under the symbol "FUN." In addition to Carowinds, Cedar Fair owns and operates ten other amusement parks including Cedar Point in Sandusky, OH, three water parks, one indoor water park, and five hotels. Cedar Fair also operates the Gilroy Gardens Family Theme Park in California under a management contract.
