Joel Lane House Celebrates 250 Years

Joel Lane House Celebrates 250 Years

In 1769, Joel Lane decided to build his family home on rural farmland in an area that would become Wake County.

Today, 250 years later, Joel Lane’s house still stands and is now in the heart of downtown Raleigh.

During the 250th anniversary year the Joel Lane Museum House will feature exhibits telling the story of the early Colonial settlement and the founding of Wake County. Your students will also learn of the area’s role in the Revolutionary War and the early days of the State Capital.

Field trips are led by costumed docents who will take your students on an immersive tour and introduce them to Hands-On History. They will tour two houses, a one-room cabin and the Joel Lane family home. A tour of the herb garden, floral garden and
separate kitchen building are also included.
