Experience Mystery of Appalachia in the Mountains of North Carolina

For over 70 years school children from all over the Southeast have come to the North Carolina mountains in the area around Boone and Blowing Rock to experience an eclectic mix of attractions that bring out the true flavor of Appalachia.

From getting up close and personal with the world’s 2nd largest private collection of Native American Artifacts (over a quarter million) and a chance to learn how to throw a traditional tomahawk. Walk thru the turn of century historic home of the founders
of Appalachian State University seeing how the area first got electricity, running water, and telephone service years behind the rest of the state.

Of course, no visit to Appalachia would be complete without experiencing the thrill of striking it rich at Doc’s Rocks the only gem mine in the state to offer ore directly from our famous emerald and ruby mines. Those brave enough can venture into the Appalachian Fossil and Dinosaur museum where you are sure to come face to face with a real T-Rex.

It’s true, Appalachia has its share of mysteries and a tour of the North Carolina’s only Natural Gravitational Anomaly will amaze an entertain as you see gravity defied right before your eyes. However, our Appalachia is not all about history, the science lovers in the group will love the Hall of Mystery with its fun array of hands-on science activities and Bubblerama where the kids can actually put each other inside a giant soap bubble.
