Newberry Opera House

South Carolina’s historic Newberry Opera House, the entertainment center of the Midlands, is now in its 19th season and has scheduled a full line-up of musicians, comedians, skilled dancers and other performers for fall field trip outings.

A variety of legendary singers will take the stage including the 5th Dimension, Leon Russell, Maurice Williams and the Zodiacs, Larry Gatlin, Chubby Checker and the Embers. Comedy shows scheduled include The Capitol Steps and Second City Comedy. The Shanghai Acrobats of the People’s Republic of China will perform as well as the Nutcracker Ballet.

Backstage student tours explain the historical significance of the theater while going backstage and through the dressing rooms.

Molly Fortune has led the Opera House for the past year as Executive Director. She leads a staff that oversees ticketing, programming, marketing, operations and patron engagement. A new ticketing system allows guests to pick their own seats online and print tickets at home. The donor program has been revamped with new levels and benefits. A new “Make Your Own” series allows guests to pick four shows and use the promo code at purchase for a discount. A new Family Adventure Series features seven shows that cater to families and young audiences.
