Grandfather Mountain offers students the chance to take their love of nature to new heights through its Field Trip Scholarship program and is now accepting applications for grants to help finance school field trips next spring to Grandfather Mountain. December 1 is the deadline for applications for the spring. Forms are available online
The Scholarship Fund provided $5,000 in field trip assistance to six North Carolina schools for the fall semester, helping 425 students to visit Grandfather’s Classroom in the clouds. The grants may be used to fund all direct expenses that are field trip-related including travel, admission and meals.
Grandfather Mountain is estimated to be more than 300 million years old and stands 5,946 feet. The popular field trip destination is known for its mile-high swing bridge and its resemblance to the profile of an elderly man. The wild and undeveloped areas of the mountain make up the Grandfather Mountain State Park with miles of mountain trails.
